Systems analysis comparing Physiologic endpoints of Standard aHa and compression-Only cPr

چکیده
Several recent studies suggest that compression only CPR (CCPR) has similar or superior outcomes to the standard AHA guidelines CPR (S-CPR). However, it has been difficult to rigorously study the key metabolic and hemodynamic endpoints in the acute clinical environment. A systems analysis approach employing a mathematical model of human physiology (Guyton/Coleman/Summers model) was used to compare the expected physiologic perturbations of S-CPR and C-CPR strategies.

Bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) improves out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survival. In settings with prolonged ambulance response times, skilled bystanders may be even more crucial. In 2010, American Heart Association (AHA) and European Resuscitation Council (ERC) introduced compression-only CPR as an alternative to conventional bystander CPR under some circumstances. The pur...

High-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been shown to improve survival outcomes after cardiac arrest. The current standard in studies evaluating CPR quality is to measure CPR process measures-for example, chest compression rate, depth, and fraction. Published studies evaluating CPR feedback devices have yielded mixed results. Newer approaches that seek to optimize CPR by measuring ...

BACKGROUND A novel musical memory aid has been proposed for aiding laypersons in complying with the American Heart Association (AHA) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines of 100 compressions per minute (cpm). OBJECTIVE This study tested usefulness of such a memory aid to improve layperson long-term compliance with CPR compression rate guidelines. METHODS A prospective randomized co...
متن کاملA Simulation-based Randomized Controlled Study of Factors Influencing Chest Compression Depth
INTRODUCTION Current resuscitation guidelines emphasize a systems approach with a strong emphasis on quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Despite the American Heart Association (AHA) emphasis on quality CPR for over 10 years, resuscitation teams do not consistently meet recommended CPR standards. The objective is to assess the impact on chest compression depth of factors including bed h...
متن کاملCompression-only CPR or standard CPR in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
BACKGROUND Emergency medical dispatchers give instructions on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) over the telephone to callers requesting help for a patient with suspected cardiac arrest, before the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. A previous study indicated that instructions to perform CPR consisting of only chest compression result in a treatment efficacy...
